Motivation and Momentum
December 27th, 2008

Motivation and Momentum

One of the most difficult parts of goal achievement is simply getting started. It’s easy enough to dream and plan, but many people get stuck in this phase indefinitely and avoid taking action. Planning and dreaming might make you feel like you’re doing something about your goals, but if you never actually take a step forward you’ll never achieve them. In order to see measurable progress, you have to step out of your comfort zones and take action.

When you finally do gather your courage and begin moving forward, what usually happens? You realize it’s WAY harder than you thought it would be, right? It feels like you’re trying to run uphill. You keep tripping over obstacles, facing setbacks and delays, dealing with fear and anxiety, and fighting a daily battle to stay motivated.

It’s during this difficult phase that most people give up. They decide that “it isn’t meant to be” right now, so they set their dream aside and vow to try again later. Or worse, they resign themselves to a mediocre life because they don’t believe they have what it takes to succeed. They’ve “failed,” so they’re not going to try any more.

Have you done this? Most people have!

However, this doesn’t have to be the end of the story. You can pick up your dreams, dust them off and try again. But this time you should know about a little something called Momentum.

You see, the difficult phase I just described is what happens at the beginning when you’re trying to gain momentum. Most people quit during this phase because they think it’s ALWAYS going to be this hard. What they don’t realize is that every effort they put toward the achievement of their goals will build on the previous efforts. With every step forward the process gets easier and easier. Finally, they’ve put so much energy and effort into the process that momentum begins to take over. Suddenly they realize that they don’t have to push so hard to keep moving forward. It becomes fun . . . even easy to achieve their goal.

This same experience can be yours! All you have to do is keep moving forward. Keep working toward your dreams and never quit. Momentum WILL take over eventually!

If you want to get momentum working even more quickly for you there are a few ways to do it, but they can be summed up in one sentence:

Be willing to work harder, faster and take bigger risks than you have in the past.

The reason why momentum can be delayed sometimes is because many people take very tentative steps toward their goals. They’re afraid to really give it their all, so they hold back much of the energy and power they could be devoting toward their goal. Even if they’re not aware of it, they may feel more comfortable working at a slower pace, so they avoid taking big risks and instead take baby steps.

There’s not a thing wrong with this approach if it suits you! However, if you want to make faster progress and build momentum quickly, think about taking bigger steps and giving your full energy and focus toward making it happen. By doing so, you’ll push through the difficult beginning and find yourself coasting before you know it.

Until next time, wishing you clarity and purpose in whatever you do!

Tips for a fit, healthy You!.
December 22nd, 2008

My tips for keeping you fit, healthy and successful.

Now lately I’ve mainly been blogging about business tips, internet marketing and real estate, but know I would like to write about the importance of maintaining balance in your life, and your health is one of the critical aspect of success. A healthy body will give you the energy and focus you need.

It is often the first thing that slips, and I hear many reasons; “I’m too busy”, “I work in the city” “It’s too cold” and so on. It’s really about attitude and changing your habits, it’s so easy to get into an everyday routine (habit) the hard thing is trying to change it.

So how do you recognise these and how do you change them?

Well first what is a habit? (noun) an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary: the habit of looking both ways before crossing the street.

Now I want you to write down what you do at the different times of the day when you’re not earning a crust, and yes that includes your lunch time!.

Once you’ve done this, take a look at it, and think about some times that would be good for you to fit in a bit of exercise! Remember that exercise releases endorphins, and endorphins make you feel good.

So how would like your “feel good” exercise - would prefer to go for a walk or run, or maybe some dancing or a bit of sport, find something that you will enjoy and make it fun - get a group of friends together and schedule a walk once a week - use each other for motivation, or go for a walk with your family and take the time to catch up with your kids.

Whichever way you choose - make it fun and keep it interesting. Once you have done it three or four times it should become a part of your usual schedule.

Until next time, here’s to your Fun, Success and Abundance!

Rituals for Success.
December 18th, 2008

Today’s success tip comes from Siimon Reynolds.

One of Australia’s best known advertising experts and Executive Director of the Photon Group, which currently turns over $180 million per annum.

How have you been able to accelerate your knowledge of business and your understanding of life?

I read books and magazines constantly, and I study the best in any field that I want to become successful in. I probably have more than 800 books on personal and professional achievement and aside from personal experience, these books have been my teachers.

I also have rituals of success which I practice every day, so that I know what the intention of my learning is. I find that knowing why you need certain knowledge accelerates your acquisition of it.

The first thing I do every morning is meditate and do a prayer. I then sit in the bath, write out my goals and read about my ‘future self’, or what I aspire to become. I also focus on my own ‘brand positioning’ - the way I would like to be seen by the people in my life. And I think that gratitude is of the utmost importance, so before I go to work I think of a few things I’m grateful for.

This daily ritual makes going to work so much easier. Sometimes we don’t feel like going to work and that can affect us for the ten hours that we’re there. It’s important to be centred so one of the greatest gifts you can develop for yourself is trying to get control of your mind. By doing my morning meditation, I’m trying to guard and cultivate my mind so that it is supporting me and not destroying me.

Are You in Control of Your Money or Does Your Money Control You?

So what is your attitude to money, do you hoard it, do you spend every cent or do you save?

One of the most powerful tools to you today is to be in control of your money. Don’t believe that you are not on control because of the creditors or demands on your money from your bills and expenses.

Only you decide what happens with your money or in fact with anything really, Find ways to prioritise your money choices, make a budget, and make a goal to stick to it.

If you have large bills or “bad debt” to pay like a credit card - make arrangements with your creditors for a payment plan - and only use credit cards if necessary.

As a rule of thumbs your income should be split the following way - and if you can live by this rule you will be on the road to financial freedom all the more sooner.

Remember to always pay yourself first - This is the first step to a millionaire mindset.

Save 10% of your income and put it into a high interest bank account - such as ING direct.

Debts: 20% of your income should go towards your large expenses and/or bad debts.

Living Exp: 70% should go towards your general living and entertainment.

When you realise that YOU are in control of your money then you will realise the possibilities and the doors to investment and building wealth will open up to you.

Until next time, here’s to your Fun, Success and Abundance!

Today’s success tip comes from Margaret Lomas.

Margaret is a other of five and founder of Destiny Financial Solutions, which now has several franchisees across the country. Margaret is also the author of seven books. Margaret is an in-demand public speaker and financial advisor.

What are some of the most important values you have tried to instil in your children?

You never get anything in life unless you are prepared to work for it - We have never given our children a lot of ‘things’, nor do we buy them lots of toys at Christmas. They have to work for everything they get and this has always been the case.

You must remember those less fortunate - We have always taught the children to give ten per cent of everything they earn to charity. You must have compassion for those who do not have the same advantages as you, and understand that people have things in their lives that may make them unhappy or even unfriendly, so you have to take responsibility for being the happy, friendly one.

You will only get ahead if you learn about money - And, you must start a savings plan as soon as you can. Sadly, once they turn sixteen they seem to temporarily forget this rule and spend everything they earn. I’m still waiting for them to get old enough to remember this again and to start paying more attention to their own financial futures.

You have to take time to smell the roses - Appreciate your achievements along the way and don’t get so committed to the future that you forget about today. Take some time out to reflect on where you are, every day.

Tell those you love that you love them as often as you can - One day they will be gone. My father passed away very suddenly three years ago and I still cry when I think about him. He knew I loved him, but I still don’t feel that I took the opportunity to tell him often enough. I was too caught up in my own daily life and worries. My mum lives with us now and although some days I don’t feel like it, I try to look in on her just to say hello.
